What’s happening in Kenya today… 11th November 2022

  1. Members of parliament have threatened to go on strike not because Kenyans are starving, hustlers don’t have jobs, and the cost of living is very high. No. They will go on strike if National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) monies are not disbursed to their constituencies by next week. The supreme court declared the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) illegal. If President William’s government releases that money, he will be breaking the law.
  2. Members of County Assemblies want their salaries increased from KSh 144,376 monthly to KSh 400,000. Data from the Controller of Budget shows that MCAs’ average salary, allowances, and benefits reach over Ksh 500,000.
  3. Nairobi Police Commander, James Mugera, has refuted reports claiming that the crime rate has increased in the city. He implied that people getting mugged, stabbed, and murdered is propaganda to tarnish Ruto’s administration.
  4. Jeff Mucheke’s brother was trapped at the collapsed Tassia building in Embakasi. The rescue operations stalled because they ran out of fuel. His brother was found dead when the rescue operations resumed. Justus Mwendwa’s life would have been saved if The National Disaster Management Unit did their job well. Disaster management is their full-time job. Mwenda was 39 years old, he is survived by his wife Jennifer, and two children, 10 and 6 years old.
  5. Matatu operators will not require a certificate of good conduct. A dangerous and populist move however those good conduct certificates are utterly useless. Parliament and the cabinet have people accused of worse crimes than touting and they have good conduct certificates.
  6. Dickson Loyerer, the NYS officer who cleaned CS Ababu Namwamba’s shoes, gets promoted to Full NYS Corporal for doing what he was forced to do by his bosses. Merit is a scam in Kenya. Polishing shoes gets you a promotion. Eating githeri gets you a state commendation. Sleeping with so and so gets you a cabinet position, MP, Senate, or even MCA nomination. Because your parents had sex and you were born, you automatically get nominated for a parliamentary position. Nepotism and cronyism are why Kenya has stagnated.
  7. Auctioneer in Westlands demolition freed on Ksh.200, 000 Bail. Zachary Baraza, the malicious auctioneer who effected the eviction and demolition of a Ksh.80 million home in Westlands on November 4 has been released on a Ksh.200,000 bail. Do judges consider the right of victims in such a straightforward case? Will this case take 5-10 years like most cases and end in the acquittal of the criminal?
  8. The newly sworn Inspector General of Police has said “Kenya has very professional police. 98% of them have no issue maybe just 2%. We are a very professional police service.“ That means that there is no need for police reforms because it’s the minority who harass citizens and ask for bribes! The more things change, the more things remain the same.
  9. On a personal note, I have a friend on the verge of destroying his marriage, business, and life because of cocaine. I’m learning it’s easily available, the barons and dealers of the drug are known. Citizens need to open anonymous accounts and tag President William Ruto and DCI KENYA naming those drug dealers. Let’s see if Ruto and his government will act. Those drugs are destroying lives and societies. Mombasa county is a good example of how drugs can cause havoc in an entire community.
  10. Finally, Azimio’s leaders Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka have nominated their children to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA). Charlene Ruto, President William Ruto’s daughter is traveling in Kenya and abroad meeting important people. What are you up to?

Going by this recap, what is the person you elected doing for you? Are they fighting for you or their stomachs? Is your life better, going to be better or you have given up? Speak up. Raise your voice. Fight for yourself. Speak COURAGE fluently. #TeamCourage
