UGANDA COMMISSIONER VISITS VANCOUVER

Deputy High Commissioner, Margaret Chogearay giving her
presentation with the map of Uganda in the background

Her Excellency Joy Ruth Acheng, High Commissioner from the Republic of Uganda and The Deputy High Commissioner, Margaret Chogearay spoke about the growing investment prospects in Uganda, and the opportunity to restore citizenship to those who have left Uganda.

It was a great event to increase awareness of these new and expanding business opportunities and providing information on various sectors and industries in Uganda. The event took place at the Ismaili Centre in Burnaby.
Commissioner and her Deputy for the most part

were quite cordial in delivering the primary message of their mission, which was to lure investment to their country. They mingled one on one, at the end of their powerpoint presentation and suggested to have a fam-trip to Uganda, to go as a delegation with a planned itinerary, to visit various sites and areas of opportunities, meeting with the local business partners and politicians to give their input. One of the many opportunities the Commissioner suggested was the implementation of solar power and the harnessing of electricity delivered to rural areas. The other was in the health care field, of providing medical facilities like the example set by AKF (Aga Khan Foundation). However, the most practical and tempting opportunity that looked appealing was in the fruit extraction, particularly mango juice. Uganda lacked a factory that could take all the mango fruit, as one of the many natural resources it produced from its rich fertile soils and turn it into a pulp and fresh juice, including bottled drinks. Most of these fruits ended up falling and rotting away. These are some of the few interesting opportunities the two ladies showcased in their presentation that lasted almost two hours, before breaking up for some refreshments
